Cleaning Marine Carpet
Cleaning marine carpet can be a simple and easy process. First make sure to thoroughly vacuum or shop vac the stained or dirty area. Next clean with fresh water but avoid using a pressure washer as this can be to strong for your boat/boat carpet and can do damage. Next select a cleaning solution; but avoid soap as it contains sodium hydroxide as well as fats. These will leave a residue which will attract more dirt over time. Also, avoid a cleaner which contains petroleum, bleach, ammonia, lye, or phosphates. These products can cause oxidation to form on your boats paint. A good idea is to use a mixture of 1 part white vinegar to 7 parts water and put it in a spray bottle.
Once you’ve selected a carpet cleaning product (auto parts stores also have great cleaning products for this type of carpet) start by gently blotting the stain. Do not scrub the stain as that will just dig the stain deeper into the carpet as well as spreading the stain farther than the afflicted area. Next clean with a wash cloth with fresh water. Air dry.
For extremely tough and difficult stains; you could use Resolve. It can be found at any grocery store. You may need to use a scrub brush to get the really difficult stains out.
